What a general contractor does
A general contractor coordinates, manages, and is legally responsible for a construction project. In North Carolina, any project over $30,000 must be performed by a licensed GC — it’s state law, not just best practice.
We hold NCLBGC #87341. Here’s what that means in practice:
- Permit management — We pull building, electrical, and plumbing permits and handle all municipal inspections
- Trade coordination — On multi-trade projects, we schedule and supervise every phase so you don’t manage five separate contractors
- Insurance and liability — Our general liability and workers’ compensation are current. Your homeowner’s insurance isn’t covering our crew — ours is.
- Legal accountability — If something goes wrong, you have a licensed entity to hold accountable through the NC Licensing Board
When you need a GC
- Any residential project over $30,000 (NC law)
- Projects requiring multiple permits (building + electrical + plumbing)
- Additions, major renovations, structural changes
- Commercial tenant build-outs and office renovations
- Any project where you want one point of contact managing the entire scope
Our advantage: three licenses, one company
Most general contractors sub out electrical and plumbing to whoever’s available that week. We hold all three licenses — GC, Electrical, and Plumbing — under Peri Remodel. That means fewer scheduling gaps, cleaner coordination, and a single company accountable for every trade on your project.
