When you need new wiring

Older Triangle homes (pre-1990) often have insufficient outlet density by modern standards. If you’re using power strips and extension cords throughout the house, you need more outlets — not more adapters. Extension cords are a fire hazard and a code violation when used as permanent wiring.

Frequently asked questions

A standard outlet addition runs $150–$350 in the Triangle, depending on wall type, distance from the nearest circuit, and whether a new circuit is needed. Dedicated circuits (for appliances, home offices, etc.) run $300–$500.
